on 4th April 2018 .... Cristiano Ronaldo made a historic goal using the famous and difficult Bicycle Kick ... Cristiano Ronaldo is a God for my Import from Mars and thanks to them following football and CR7 .... our lives turned around in many ways than one .... my kids have a Focus in Life and since they were 11 and 14 ...they changed their eating habits and follow an exercise regime that I admire .... ergo the mother in me is indebted to this Legend of a Footballer .... he works so hard and is so very dedicated in his approach to his game ... I like the fact that in following him my kids have turned around for the better and what more could a mother ask for ???
...it was December 2015 and both my kids were playing for their school in the Zonal competitions here in Pune ... my 14 year old was playing with the under 18 team and my 11 year old was playing with the under 14 team .... we parents had to drop and pick up kids for the matches held in a far off part of the city ... I used to go along with my kids for the matches to ensure they ate at least something and drank enough water and juices .... dehydration due to playing in the afternoon sun was a worrying factor .....
by 23rd December I was a little tired and had promised myself that I would take a break the next day ie 24th to get enough time to prepare for a little Christmas Do for my kids .... it’s a festival I follow since school time and my kids like the festival too .... at one point in time they both wanted to change their names to Peter Parker (elder kid ) and I forget the name the younger one had set his hat on .... LOL and both were sure they were going to convert to Christianity once they turned 18 .... I never talk about the God concept at home .... whatever my kids want to follow they can ...earlier they would go to the temple with my mom ....
However towards the end of the day on 23rd ....some politicians decided to come and address the students competing ....for it was some important Personality’s memory for which the matches were being played ... I was reading a book and wasn’t paying attention to what the politician was talking... till... the mother of a kid studying in my kids school started on about the bicycle kick ... I thought the politician had promised a bicycle to the highest goal scorer ....when that mother explained what a bicycle kick is .... her son was not going to be playing the next day and she was asking me if I would be there to see the matches ....as I had told her I would be not there on the 24th ....
the politician had promised 10,000 rupees to any kid attempting the Bicycle Kick ... toooo much .... i wanted to box him for doing that ....
i was wondering about it all for some time.... till the matches for the day ended and i heard the under 18s going gagaga about the Bicycle Kick ....i bit my tongue to Keep Quite and said nothing till i reached home and took the little one into confidence and told him to tell his brother ....How Dangerous the BK is IF he has ZERO training in attempting it .... and i told him i was going to accompany him the next day ....the very excuse the little one needed to bunk school the next day .... Boomerang life can be ....Seriously ....
then i sat and had a talk about the Rest of his Life and not doing something so foolish as he had just started getting Serious about football .... after a loooooong talk ... i seemed to be getting to him ...however early the next day ...we were the First to reach the grounds and i went on Reiterating my ideas about BK which Both my kids were Sick of hearing by then ....
Worse the Student Council that made up the under 18 team ....i talked to them too ...about Not attempting the BK .... my kids were Horrified that i talked to their school Student Council too ... i told the Sports Sir to reiterate my pov too .... my kids refused to Even look in my direction by then .... took the little one and went and got sandwiches for the team and again repeated my pov when handing out the sandwiches ......ohhhh how Irritated my kids were with me that day LMAO
the little one was the official video taker for the matches and he was thrilled to be practising with the Student Council of his school ....and about bunking school too ......that day the first match the under 18s had was with a professional club and it was scary and sad to see the professional kids play and get screamed at by their coach .... in the end one kid from the professional team was crying and i felt so bad to see him sitting on his haunches and holding his head and weeping ....
luckily not one kid playing that day could attempt the Bicycle Kick and it was two good matches for the under 18s and they lost at the semi final stage .... they took it sportingly ...as for an IB school to reach Semi-finals was a very Rare thing.... as the under 18s are the Diploma Programme students who are given NO time to practice in school ... with zero practise those kids had reached the semi finals with just Strategy decided half an hour before each match and watching their opponent team’s playing ....
23rd December 2015 i understood fully ...what the Bicycle Kick is all about ...i had watched documentaries and clips about Pele and his famous BK .... however that is the day the term sank in forever more .....
