has anybody else thought about it ....from childhood i have noticed ....Mega Cricket Matches .... Alwayzzzzz start when college kids have exams ....invariably some bunk studies and watch Cricket ....
I remember hearing my neighbour ...a Tamil Iyer Mami talk of some family friend's son who was studying and listening to cricket commentary while studying and writing all about cricket in his answer sheet and Failing !!!!!!!
i used to wonder how that bhaiya could have done something soooooooo Foolish ....did he not see the Questions ....
i was in junior school and had no clue what went on in college exam answer sheets .... nor did i know what Madam Future had in store for me ...
those days ...my modus operandi during pinnacle moments during Cricket Matches ...was.. to go on about being a Pakistani in my previous birth .... it would get my Dad's friend and our Fav Muhhmad(we used to call him so) Uncle to say his fav line for me...''ah here comes the 6year old behaving like a 60 year old valiyaamma(elderly lady) ''... LOL
those days there was No TV and everyone would go Krazy around the radio my Dad had assembled ....and the cacaphony used to irk me .... ergo my going off on tangents ... i always wanted Pakistan to win as people in India could be so Hyper about winning and from that wee age ...i thought it was my Duty to Stand Up and cheer for the Underdog .... weird how that habit stuck ....hmmmmmmm
anyways you know Madam Future decided to show me Exactly what my neighbour Iyer Mami's family friend's son was thinking when ...i started correcting papers in 1995....i remember giving '-ive' marks to a few First year/Freshman students of the ILS law college ...coz they wrote sad stuff ....poor students ...
After i rejoined teaching after an 8year break ...i was a mother of two and my style of paper correction was ....pass as many as possible ... once a mom ..the brain sees most kids as children ...and less as students ....
ergo i have forgiven loads of students ... all kinds of stories too ...Except for stories about The Pirates of the Caribbean (TPOTC)....those were a little 4 much .... neatly written reviews of TPOTC instead of economic theory ....sigh
once in a while... when i was incharge of CAP (central assesment of papers) and everyone correcting papers was troubled by the heat in the CAP room .... i have even Enacted certain Colourfull answers ...to rounds of laughter ...
what students write for answers can be quite Hilarious ...however once i was heading CAP and had a batch of students who were least interested in studying ....i would try to keep the mood in the CAP room Happy ...as happy Profs are not Strict in paper correcting .... i hated seeing Profs failing students for 2 or 3 marks ....
my theory was this ....if the child is interested in a particular subject ...it makes sense to fail them as we can ensure the student gets another chance to get to learn the subject well and understand the concepts well ....and give the exam again...
however if the subject is a compulsory subject being forced on them ...and there is very little scope of them going ahead and doing a PG in the subject ...let them pass and be done with this subject that is being Forced down their gullet ...
however my point is this
does the Cricket Federation of India have something with their Timing ...why has the timing of Important Matches in Cricket ....Always Coincided with final exams for college kids ????
wonder if anyone has Ever thoguht about this issue ??????
